Your business website is often a potential customer’s first encounter with you. Within seconds, visitors ask themselves “am I in the right place?”. These nine points make the answer obvious.

1. A first screen that says what you do

Before scrolling, visitors should understand what you do and who you do it for. Swap vague lines like “building the future together” for something concrete: “Kitchen and bathroom renovations in Leeds”.

2. A clear list of services

A short title and a sentence or two per service is enough. Visitors who want detail can open a dedicated page.

3. An “About” section that introduces you

People work with people. A genuine text about who you are, how you work and what you care about builds trust. Use real photos where you can.

4. Real examples

Finished work, project photos or results shared with your clients’ permission. Even if you only have a few, showing real ones beats a polished but empty gallery.

Yagi Made-up testimonials or unverifiable claims like “1000+ happy clients” look shiny for a moment and cost trust in the long run.

5. Contact details that are easy to find

Phone, email, address and opening hours belong on the contact page and in the footer. On a phone, tapping the number should start a call.

6. A contact form that actually works

Make sure messages really reach you and that senders get a “we’ve received your message” confirmation. Drop unnecessary fields: name, email and message are usually enough.

7. Mobile usability and speed

Most visitors arrive on a phone. Text should be readable without zooming, buttons easy to tap and pages quick to load. A slow site loses people before they see your content.

8. Basic search engine setup

Every page needs its own title and description, images need alt text, and the site should be added to Google Search Console. It doesn’t guarantee rankings, but it lays the right foundations.

If your form collects personal data, you need a notice explaining how it’s handled. Under GDPR (or KVKK in Türkiye) it’s worth having a professional review it.

Quick checklist

  • Is it clear on the first screen what you do?
  • Are your services listed?
  • Can visitors reach your contact details from every page?
  • Has the form been tested?
  • Does it read comfortably on a phone?
  • Is there a privacy notice?
