There’s a question most people only think of after launch: “What happens when I want to change something?” The answer depends on whether your site has an admin panel or is static.

What’s a static site?

On a static site the content lives in the site’s code. To change a sentence or a photo, you email the person who built it, and they update it and publish the change.

Pros:

  • Quicker to build and usually cheaper.
  • Very fast and with a small attack surface.
  • Ideal when content rarely changes.

Cons:

  • Every small change needs someone else.
  • With frequent updates, time and cost add up.

What’s a site with an admin panel?

The site gets a password-protected panel where you change text, prices, photos, announcements or blog posts as easily as filling in a form. No coding involved.

Pros:

  • Update a price, a menu or a campaign yourself in minutes.
  • A blog or news section makes regular publishing easy.
  • Lower maintenance costs in the long run.

Cons:

  • More work to set up, so a higher starting cost.
  • The panel’s security and updates need regular care.

Yagi A panel isn’t there so you can change everything; it’s there so the things you change often are easy to change. Good panels are simple.

Which one suits you?

Ask yourself: does anything on the site change more often than once a month?

  • Restaurants and cafés: menus and prices change often → a panel makes sense.
  • Clinics, consultants, law firms: stable services, but announcements or a blog → a panel helps.
  • Personal portfolios, one-page sites: content rarely changes → static is enough.
  • Product catalogues: new products all the time → a panel is close to essential.

There’s a middle way

You don’t have to manage everything from a panel. Most of the site can stay static, with only the parts that change often, like a price list or announcements, connected to it. That balances the cost.

How we do it

For sites with an admin panel we build on Django’s solid foundations and trim the panel down to just the fields you need. Tick “Update text and photos myself” in the quote form and we’ll work out the scope together. Tell us about your project.
